This rather lovely old gal is sitting at a somewhat shady BHPH lot in town.
What separates this lot from others is that this chap buys some interesting stuff. There was this e39, an e38, two S Class Mercedes from the early 90s (the big boxy one), a Holden Maloo (aka Pontiac GTO) with a manual, and a freaking Mercury Capri.
Sadly this e39 touring was looking super tired. Rust on the lift gate, flattening tires, dents around the kidney grills. I have a sad.

Fun fact, an E39 528i was the first BMW I ever drove.

Nice! Touring or sedan?
I’ve been a BMW fanboy for a long time, just never owned one. I’m actively trying to correct that.

It was a sedan. Looked exactly like this:
I got hooked on BMWs when I was 13, it took me until I was 24 to actually get one. Since I’ve been working, I’ve bought 3 cars, all of them BMWs.

Yeah, that seems to be the fate of most E39 tourings... a lot of them got abused and are now just rotting away in shade dealer lots. A lot of enthusiasts prefer the sedans so the tourings get no love. That’s how I was able to score a clean 2002 540it for a friend for $2000. It was listed at $2900 and had zero local interest since it was in Denver. Crazy to think that nobody wanted this:
And I’m the proud owner of this very red 2000 540it with 196k miles.
Long live the E39 tourings!

That red is rad.

Thanks! I flew out to LA to buy it, and I definitely paid a bit too much for it because of the color ($5000 for a 2000 540it with 174k miles).
